January 10, 2012

Welcome to two new students.  Keiley Slorby has joined our 5th grade class and India Puhala-Doornbos has rejoined the eighth grade class.  Our enrollment for K-12 is now at 158 students.

Congratulations to Jaden Kallenbach, Justin Johnson, Megan Olson, and Hailey Kallenbach from the A.S. Gibbens FFA Chapter.  They each received a $750.00 Supervised Agricultural Experience Grant from the ND FFA Foundation at the State Leadership Conference.   Congratulations to Hunter Buehler, Quentin Sears, Megan Olson, and Alexis Gigstad on receiving FFA jackets at the conference.

School will dismiss on Friday, January 13th at 1:30 for professional development.  Staff will be working on RTI, student achievement and data.  No school for students on Monday, January 16th as the staff will be attending a professional development through the NESC at Devils Lake.

The Maddock Enrichment students made homemade ornaments and sold them to parents, grandparents, and Maddock School staff members.  The students donated the money they raised to the Uffda Fund for Animals in Cando and the Souris Valley Shelter in Minot.

The Enrichment students also made donation boxes and put around the community to collect used eyeglasses to donate to the Minnesota Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.  The students donated 59 pairs of glasses to help give others the “gift of sight”.

The Enrichment students are finishing their unit on philanthropy with the service project of “Pennies for Patient” to raise money for children with leukemia lymphoma.  I think they may have an incentive from the administrators worked into this one.  We will have to wait and see!  Way to go Mrs. Benson and the Enrichment students on all of your successful projects!

The Benson County Girls Basketball received an Award of Excellence for exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity from the NDHSAA.

Congratulations to the following students for qualifying for the ELKS and KC’S free throw contests.

ELKS - Brooke Anderson, Chase Benson, Talissa Aabrekke, Gunner Hagen, Hannah Pierson, and Spencer Olson.

KC’s – Marissa Lunde, Gannon Griffin, Keringten Lee, Braydon Follman, Taylor Foss, Spencer Sears, Courtney Lauinger, Jaydin Risovi, Kristi Medalen, and Quentin Sears.

Happy New Year,

Mrs. Anderson
